Kilby, Jack

Jack St. Clair, Kilby [1] ( Eng. Jack St. Clair Kilby , November 8, 1923, Jefferson City - June 20, 2005, Dallas ) - American scientist. Winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2000 for the invention of an integrated circuit in 1958 while working at Texas Instruments (TI). He is also the inventor of the pocket calculator and thermal printer (1967).

Biography

Born in Jefferson City (Missouri, USA). He graduated from the Great Bend High School in Great Bend, Kansas. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign . In 1947, he received a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee , while working for Centralab in Milwaukee .

From 1958 to 1983 he worked at Texas Instruments in Dallas . 1978-1985 professor at the Texas Agricultural and Machine-Building University ( English ). Member of the National Academy of Engineering of the USA (1967). National Science Medal of the United States (1969).
