The rottweiler ( it. Rottweiler ) is a service breed of a Molossian group of dogs . Described in the city of Rottweil ( Germany ) in the middle of the XVIII century (according to legend, the first representatives of this breed took part in the Seven Years War ). A large, strong-boned dog with a strong [1] strong character. It is known that in the middle of the XIX century with the advent of railways, the need to distill cattle disappeared, and, eventually, the time came when only one rottweiler dog remained in the city of Rottweil itself. There is a saying about them: “If you trained a German Shepherd, you didn’t do anything, and if you are a Rottweiler, that’s a lot.” This indicates a strong and complex temperament of the breed. The "butcher dog" was so called, it was bred to transport cow or pork carcass from the countryside to the cities of Germany (in winter on sleds, in summer - on trolleys), as were guard dogs at the same time. Rottweilers were also used to protect the home or estate. More about the Rottweilers say "dog of one owner", they are difficult to tolerate the change of owners.

Description
Rottweilers are dogs that love to work, they are hardy, energetic, full of strength and excitement. They are loyal defenders and will do a lot to protect the owner. But in the absence of proper upbringing, socialization, and friendly communication with the outside world, they can grow very aggressive towards others and towards the owner himself, and his family. Many rottweilers tend to have a closer relationship with one particular person. They are self-confident dogs, powerful, serious and courageous. Strong and powerful dog, compact and proportional physique.
Overall impression
Rottweiler - dog medium to large, powerful. Does not look heavy or light, without a hint of dampness. The whole type of Rottweiler speaks of great strength, dexterity and endurance.
Height and weight
- Growth
Males - 61–68 cm, females - 56–63 cm.
- Weight
Males - about 50 kg, females - about 42 kg.
- Stretch Index:
103-105. The length of the body, measured from the brisket to the ischial tubercles, should exceed the height at the withers by at most 15%.
Head
The skull is of medium length, wide between the ears, when viewed from the side of the forehead line - moderately convex, the transition from the forehead to the muzzle is well defined. The head should be wide, narrow and pointed elements spoil the impression. When viewed in profile, the lines of the forehead and muzzle should be almost parallel and separated by a steep gradient. Occiput is well developed, but not strongly protruding. Pronounced zygomatic arches.
Eyes
Medium-sized, almond-shaped, dark brown in color, with well-fitting eyelids. The disadvantage are round and bulging eyes. Much attention is now paid to the color of the rottweiler's iris. For all the cases encountered, a scale of 16 colors is compiled, changing from one color to another. Colors from 1 to 4 digits, dark brown tones are considered desirable; permissible - up to 6 colors discharge, light brown tones; the rest are unacceptably light. A Rottweiler should have an attentive open gaze, with no signs of cowardice, stupidity and anger.
Teeth
Large, scissor bite. Tooth formula: top, 1 branch of the jaw: 3Р + 1К + 4П + 2М. Only 20 teeth on 2 branches. Bottom, 1 jaw branch: 3Р + 1К + 4П + 3М. Total - 22 teeth on 2 branches. A pincer bite according to the new standard is considered to be a serious drawback that reduces the estimate, but not a defect (especially for working rottweilers over 6 years old). Interesting research results that a large number of animals normal bite in adulthood changes to "ticks" (Yudin V., Gursky I.). Direct bite leads to rapid erasure of teeth and can not be considered rational. Undershot and undershot - disqualifying faults.
Gums and lips
Must be well pigmented and look black or dark brown. It is allowed to have separate small light islands. The outer edges of the lips should be covered with dark skin without bleached areas. Rottweiler lips are not thin, fit tightly.
Skin Folds
In the excited state, when the ears are alert, several longitudinal folds are allowed. In a calm state they should not be. Despite the fact that a certain amount of folds on the head, combined with folds on the cheeks that are formed when the dog “smiles”, form an original rottweiler mimic , it is required that the folds be as small as possible.
Head
Rottweiler should have a full face and be somewhat "cheeky." And it is interesting that there are good dogs with wide, developed cheekbones, and a shallow transition, as well as a deep, pronounced transition can compensate for the impression of poorly developed cheekbones. Optimally, when the transition and cheekbones are well developed.
Nose
The back of the nose is well defined, the nose is wide, oval-shaped with large nostrils, the color is exclusively black.
Upper and lower jaws
The back of the nose, passing into the upper part of the muzzle, should be straight, wide, gradually expanding to the eyes. Accordingly, the arcade of the upper incisors should be wide. Rottweiler lower jaw should not be light. With the dog's mouth closed, it is not completely hidden behind the upper lips. Even if the flakes are pendulous, a sufficiently developed chin should be seen, behind which a powerful lower jaw would be felt.
Ears
Medium size, pendant, triangular, set high, set wide apart. When lying forward, well-fitting ears, the skull appears wider.
Neck
The neck of a medium length, not short, muscular, with a developed nape is recognized as desirable. The cross section of the Rottweiler neck is rounded at the top, slightly oval at the bottom. It is not very dry, dense, should be free from the suspension and dewlap (folds between the front legs). Exit neck should be at an angle of 40-50 degrees on the horizontal axis in the rack, depending on the vigor of the dog. The neck profile should be indicated by almost straight lines. The “deer” neck with the Adam's apple in front is excluded, only the crest of the neck can be somewhat convex. When viewed from the dog side note how the neck goes into withers and how developed the latter.
Corps
The neck should smoothly pass into a well-marked withers, which, in turn, passes into a broad flat back. Long back - this is a good dynamics and agility of the dog. The back is straight, powerful.
The chest is wide and deep. The chest is wide, voluminous and deep. The girth of the chest is measured with a tape according to the level determined by the back end of the scapula. Girth should be equal to the height at the withers plus 20 cm. The width of the back and the bulk of the chest are affected by the bulge of the ribs. 9 edges true, 4 - false. Cartilage bottom of the chest forms the so-called. The “keel”, the front part of which, with the proper structure of the shoulder girdle, protrudes forward and creates a forbrust, which is a springboard for attaching the muscles and forming the proud forward posture of the breast forward rottweiler. The back of the chest when viewed from above is somewhat wider than the front, and the ribs there are more mobile when breathing.
The transition of the back to the lower back ideally occurs smoothly. The loin is straight, short, wide, slightly convex. It should not be narrow, forming a "waist", as well as unnecessarily long, sagging or humpback. A slight bulge in the loins of a well-developed Rottweiler may be normal, otherwise everything is fine.
The loin unsharply turns into rounded croup. Croup - wide, horizontally set; it is designated in front by maklok, and behind is sciatic pelvic tubercles. Its base is the sacrum and pelvic bones. The croup must be muscular, in profile it is slightly rounded, in length it must be equal to the lower back or no more than half the length of the back.
- Corpus vices:
weak bones and lack of muscle. Flat chest, soft or humpbacked back, beveled croup.
Limbs
The limbs are strong and muscular.
- Front limbs
Shoulder blades are long. The shoulders are thick, massive, muscular. Pasterns springy, set with a slight slope. When viewed from either side, the front limbs are straight and wide set. Vices: narrow set, twisted forearm, soft or sagging metacarpus, loose paws with dark, short claws.
- Hind limbs
Seen from the rear, straight and parallel. Hips short, very muscular. The legs are long. Hock joints with correct angles, laid back. Paws are round, arched, in a lump. Defects: saberiness, narrow set, closeness of hock joints, barrel set, dewclaws.
Tail
Naturally shaped, highly placed. Stretched - is a continuation of the back.
In a quiet state - hanging. Since 1998, due to a change in the standard, it is forbidden to stop the rottweiler in the participating countries of FCI, and the rottweiler with the docked tail is not allowed to participate in exhibitions. In RKF there is no direct prohibition on docking, a dog without a tail can take part in exhibitions in the country and be used in breeding, however, an absolute majority of breeders adhere to the FCI standards and refused to stop tailing, strictly discarding dogs with atypical and non-standard tails.
In alternative organizations RKF, (fast, IKU) there is no such ban, and for most dogs the tails are shortly arrested, leaving 1 or two vertebrae (according to the old standard).
Wool and Color
Wool consists of outer hair and undercoat - straight wool. The outer coat is of medium length, coarse, thick and tight. The undercoat should not protrude from under the outer coat. The hind limbs have slightly longer hair.
Color: black with a well-defined tan of a juicy red-brown color: on the cheeks, face, lower neck, chest and limbs, as well as above the eyes and below at the base of the tail.
