Biography
Son of literature professor Edmond Arnu . Opposition journalist. Author of articles criticizing the Second Empire .
Follower of Proudhon . Active member of the First International (1864).
Member of the Paris Commune (1871). After the proclamation of the Republic on September 4, 1870, he was appointed deputy mayor of the fourth district of Paris. In March 1871 he was elected to the Council of the Commune. The first member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, then - was a member of the Committee on Labor and Commerce (from April 6), education (May 4), etc.
Edited the journal of the Commune - Journal Officiel. After the fall of the commune, the Versaillese was sentenced to death. He fled to Switzerland , returned to France after an amnesty in 1880.
The author of the books "The State and the Revolution" (1877), the popular "History of the Paris Commune", published in 1878 in Brussels. He published several novels under the pseudonym of Arthur Matti .
