The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is a functioning Orthodox church of the Tashkent and Uzbekistan diocese of the Central Asian Metropolitan District of the Russian Orthodox Church , located in the city of Jizzakh in the Republic of Uzbekistan . History
In 1900, a large Orthodox church built of red burnt brick was erected in the city of Jizzakh. This building is currently located in a small city park, near the house in which the Russian governor lived in that historical period.
In the 1930s, the Temple in the named building was closed. Since then, the Orthodox church in this building did not work. Later, in this building the Museum of Nature was located, which is still operating in the building.
In 1932, new Orthodox land was allocated to believing Orthodox Christians for the construction of a new temple building.
In 1947, the construction of a small new temple building constructed from adobe brick was completed. In 1947, the new temple building was consecrated.
The first priest of the church was Father George Lugovenko, who served in the church and served for about 20 years.
In 1975, Father Veniamin Burdin was appointed priest of the temple, who rebuilt the temple building. Benjamin Burdin was the rector of the temple for 14 years, until 1989. Subsequently, he was transferred to Russia.
After him, Father Alexander Golikov was appointed rector of the temple, and later Father Alexander Bazanov. In March 1992, Protopriest Father Leonid Alesenko was appointed rector, who served as rector of the church until May 10, 1996. Later, the priest Fr. Georgy Palekhov, temporarily seconded by the Tashkent Diocesan Administration. From February 20, 1997 to May 22, 2003 the priest, Father Andrei Golovanov, was the rector of the church.
From December 1, 2003 to the present, the rector of the church is the clergyman Father Nikolai Klimenko.
The patronal feast of the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the city of Jizzakh is celebrated annually on May 22.
