On July 5, 1932, Griffin and James Mattern flew from Lockheed Vega's The Century of Progress [1] airplane from Floyd Bennett Field Airport near New York , landed in Harbor ( Newfoundland and Labrador , Canada ), then made a non-stop flight to Berlin . But the attempt to fly around the world ended in an emergency landing in the city of Borisov ( Belorussian SSR , USSR ) on July 7, 1932. Nevertheless, the pilots set a new record for crossing the Atlantic Ocean : 10 hours 50 minutes.

In 1946-1947, he led the move of the Civil Aeronautics Administration from Houston to Oklahoma City, where it later became known as the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center . Griffin also served as director of Washington National Airport (now Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport ) from 1947 to 1959. Interestingly, he was the first pilot to land in 1941 at this airport as an American Airlines pilot.

Bennett Griffin died on April 26, 1978 in Washington, was buried in Arlington National Cemetery . [2]
