Biography
Born in the family of a colonel of railway troops. His mother was Ksenia M. Kvitnitskaya .
In 1930 he graduated from school number 56 in Moscow M. Gorky [1] and special construction courses of construction technicians on the basis of the school at Zavodstroi. From 1929 he worked as a draftsman-trainee, and then received a referral for construction in Magnitogorsk , where he worked as a technician at Zavodstroi [2] .
In 1932 he entered the Construction Institute of the Moscow City Council , while continuing to work in various construction organizations. In 1933 - 1934 he worked in the Moscow Kremlin for reconstruction. This period of life was extremely dangerous. Suddenly, interrogations began, and in the future, arrests of those working on the construction site in the Kremlin. R.N. Kvitnitsky was called to the OGPU twice, where he was asked to write about the employees of the department with whom he worked. From the engineers of the department who had already been arrested, he received new knowledge, and only the best words could write about them. Realizing that the third time he would not be allowed to surrender a blank sheet, he, no longer hoping for a favorable outcome, filed a letter of resignation at his own request . Suddenly, he received a letter of resignation, which he kept all his life as a document on the granting of freedom . [3]
Since 1934 , he was on the construction of a scientific campus in Koltushi [4] [5] , where he repeatedly met with IP Pavlov , who was very interested in all the details of construction. Working in the Construction Department of the All-Union Institute of Experimental Medicine (VIEM) , he met F.T. Sadovsky [6] - this friendship lasted until the end of Sadovsky's life.
In 1938 he graduated from the Construction Institute with the qualification of a civil engineer with a degree in heating and ventilation .
In 1939 he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army and served in the 17th tank division at junction No. 77 of the Trans-Baikal Military District [7] [8] . From June 24, 1941, he was in the 17th Panzer Division on the Western Front - a mechanic – driver of light tanks — 20th Army of the 5th Mechanized Corps . In October 1941 he was contused with a rupture of the eardrum and further inflammatory process . Operated in a field hospital . After that, he was sent to Moscow , and then to Vladimir , where he was re-operated. In the future, received a disability [9] . He continued to serve in the 15th tank training regiment [10] as a section commander . He taught new recruits the basics of driving a tank , both theoretically and in practice, sometimes spending more than 12 hours a day in a tank. He participated in amateur concerts, played the piano, composed songs. He was a freelance employee of the Red Army newspaper “On the rout of the enemy”, where he published more than 60 of his poems, humoresques, parodies [11] ; October 14, 1945 was demobilized .
He continued to work at various construction sites. In 1947 he entered the graduate school of the Central Scientific Research Institute of Industrial Structures (TsNIPS).
On October 14, 1948, as part of a group of employees, the TsNIPS flew in connection with the earthquake in Ashgabat and was seconded to the Seismic Commission of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR [12] . In 1949 he graduated from graduate school (supervisor L. I. Onishchik ).
Since 1950 he worked as the head of the technical department of the Grammplastprojectmontazh trust. He was entrusted with the management of works on the reconstruction and construction of the extension of the buildings of the House of Recordings [13] . The work was complicated by the fact that Beria’s mansion was located nearby [14] and everyone who worked on the construction was thoroughly checked and searched, and the construction itself had to be carried out in such a way that the workers could not see the mansion where Beria lived.
In connection with the change in plate production technology, he participated in the design and organization of the restructuring of the Aprelevka record factory .
In 1952 he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of technical sciences [15] .
Since 1954 , he began teaching at the Moscow Engineering and Economic Institute (MIEI) them. S. Ordzhonikidze, and also worked for some time at the Peat Institute [16] . In the position of associate professor, and then professor MIEI (MIU) gave lectures , led practical classes, worked with graduate and graduate students .
He died on June 9, 1991 . Buried at the Pyatnitsky cemetery .
Research and teaching activities
He dealt with the problems of deformability of stone structures reinforced using various materials.
Working as a member of the seismic commission of the USSR Academy of Sciences , he made many photographs, drawings, drawings, and records. Many of them are still cited in various publications [17] [18] . These materials were used for decisions and recommendations of the commission on the consequences of the Ashgabat earthquake . Later they became one of the sources for writing a thesis . It also included the results of numerous experimental studies on the effectiveness of the cage when reinforcing brickwork. The formulas obtained by him in the thesis entered the Rules and technical conditions for the design of stone and reinforced stone structures (H and TU 120-55) [19] .
While working at MIEI (MIU) , he wrote both scientific papers and many textbooks .
In the position of associate professor, and then professor of MIEI (MIU), he lectured not only to students of the USSR , and then the Russian Federation , but also to students from other countries: China , Vietnam , Bulgaria , Hungary . I also read lecture courses for senior executives in Moscow and conducted their theses .
For 36 years of work at the institute, he was the head of a large number of graduation projects and dissertations .
The works of R. Kvitnitsky are still relevant and are used by modern scientists [20] , and some of his teaching materials are used in the educational process [21] .
