Laurence Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor - British Award given by the London Theater Society , in recognition of professional achievements in the field of theater. It was created in 1976 and renamed in 1984 in honor of the great British actor .

In 1976, from 1985 to 1990, in 1996, 1998 and 1999, in 2003, from 2005 to 2009, and in 2012, the prize was awarded in the joint nomination “The best performance of auxiliary staff ”. From 1977 to 1984, from 1991 to 1995, in 1997, from 2000 to 2002, in 2010 and 2011 and from 2013 to 2018, the nomination was divided into two categories: “Best Supporting Actor” and “ Best Supporting Actress ” composition ”; a similar separation occurs when the number of selected nominees exceeds five.
For the entire existence of the award, 26 actors received it. Actor Chris Wally is the last winner of the award at the moment, he received it for his role as Davy in the play “ Lieutenant from the Inishmore Island ”. Actor Michael Bryant was twice nominated for this award, which is a record number of nominations in this category.
