Description
Ants are red-brown in color with saber-shaped (without teeth) mandibles. They are found in Canada and the USA . They lead a “ slave-owning ” way of life, using as their slaves ants of the genus Formica (Formica incerta and others). Head shape from sub rectangular to sub trapezoidal with a narrower back. The body is brilliant. Head length (HL) 1.40-1.76 mm, head width (HW) 1.38-1.76, scape length of antennae (SL) 1.19-1.36, head index (CI) 93-100, scapus index (SI) 75-91, total body length (TL) 5.72-7.12 mm [1] [2] . The species was first described in species status in 1870 by the Austrian worldmecologist Gustav Mayr (1830-1908) [3] .
