History
In 1888, the Kharkov merchants came forward with the initiative to create a special economic educational institution in Kharkov. After preparatory measures, in 1893 such an educational institution - Kharkov Commercial School - was opened. In 1912, evening Higher commercial courses were opened at the school, which in 1916 were awarded the status and rights of a commercial institution. In 1918-1921, the future Nobel Prize winner in economics (1971) Simon Kuznets studied at KhKI . In 1920, the KhKI was transformed by the Soviet authorities into the Kharkov Institute of National Economy ; and in the course of the reform of higher education in 1930, it was divided into a number of sectoral universities. Kharkov Engineering and Economics Institute (KhIEI) was formed on the basis of the industrial faculty of the KhINH.
October 1, 1930 is celebrated as the official founding date of the university. KhIEI trained economic engineers for the heavy industry sectors of Ukraine: mining, metallurgy, basic chemical and coke chemical, machine-building. In the 1930s and early 60s, E. G. Lieberman worked at the institute; the results of the work of the KhIEI research laboratory led by him formed the basis of the 1965 Economic Reform (Kosygin-Lieberman Reforms) . Since the 1960s, KhIEI has also trained specialists in the design and maintenance of automated production control systems ( ACS ). Since the 1980s - specialists in foreign economic activity.
In 1994, the institute received the IV level of state accreditation of higher educational institutions and on April 20, 1994 was transformed into Kharkov State Economic University. Since August 21, 2004 - the university was given the status of National; from October 14, 2013 - the name of Simon Kuznets . In 2007, the university was awarded the Order of Friendship of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam .

International Partnership
KhNEU named after S. Kuznetsa is a member of Magna Charta Universitatum (2004), Association of Economic Universities of South and Eastern Europe and the Black Sea Region (2008), Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (2009) European University Association (2009 .). Cooperation agreements and partnerships have been established with more than 40 universities in the EU, Russia and the CIS countries, the USA and Canada, and East Asian countries (2010).
Double Degree Master's Programs
The university has joint master programs of "double diploma" with the universities of Lyon-2 named. Lumiere ( Université Lumière Lyon 2 - France).
In 2010, the Franco-Ukrainian Business Informatics MBA program received the highest grade from the A + Association for the Assessment of Research in Higher Education ( AERES , France). According to SMBG Consulting Group research, the program was included in the top 10 Master's programs in Business Intelligence in France in 2013 and 2014. The program includes a six-month internship at EI Telecom, Adyoulike, Key Consulting, Mob in life, BlueStella, Simpki, HILTON, 55, Siemens. Since 2015, the University of Montpellier-2 has joined the program, some students get the opportunity to go through the one-year program "Creating new innovative companies" [3] .
Library
Library of KhNEU named after S. Kuznets is located in the reconstructed scientific and library building of 4000 m 2 (2005). There is an automated system of cataloging literature, and computers with access to the Internet and special databases are installed in the reading rooms. The library consists of 5 departments with 12 reading rooms for 460 places and 12 subscriptions. Since 2009, readers have been granted access to full-text electronic documents.
The library has the World Bank Innovation Knowledge Center and the European Union Information Center. Through the Centers, readers can access the information and analytical resources of these organizations.
Publisher
Publishing house of KhNEU im. S. Kuznets has been operating since 2001. Equipped with modern equipment, it carries out a full cycle of publication from editing to printing. KhNEU named after S. Kuznetsa collaborates with the publishing house "Inzhek", also representing a full cycle of publishing services.
Multimedia Tutorials
The university holds a leading position among Ukrainian universities in creating multimedia textbooks and e-courses on the Adobe Captivate platform.
Personal Learning Systems
Portal of the electronic distance learning system KhNEU im. S. Kuznets provides better access to teaching resources and communication between teachers and students during the study of training courses. The university standard for distance learning through the Internet is developed based on the Moodle environment (2009). Over 550 e-learning courses are available for students (2010). KhNEU named after S. Kuznets is also a developer of distance learning systems for schools in Kharkov.
Science
KhNEU named after Since 2000, S. Kuznets has been making efforts to develop research activities, seeing in it the main condition for improving the quality of education. The university works closely with the Scientific Research Center for Industrial Development Problems of the NAS of Ukraine. A number of research laboratories have been created in the structure of the university.
Scientific journals
In KhNEU them. S. Kuznets published the scientific journal "Development Economics" ( ISSN 1683-1942 ). Together with the Research Center for Industrial Development Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine S. Kuznets is a co-founder of Business Inform magazine ( ISSN 2222-4459 ). The journal "Management of Development" publishes student articles and conference proceedings.
International Conferences and Business Forums
The university hosts forums of regional and national importance with international participation. International scientific and practical conferences on the development of a program for socio-economic development of the Kharkiv region (2001, 2004, 2010), the International conference on regional and local economic development (2001), the Ukrainian-Russian Investment Forum (2003) , International Economic Forum "Regional Commonwealth" (2003), Environmental Forum (2004, 2006), International Tourism Forum "Kharkov: Partnership in Tourism" (2010), etc.
Strategies for socio-economic development of the Kharkiv region
Since 2001, scientists KNEU them. S. Kuznets are involved in major research projects to create strategies for the socio-economic development of the Kharkov region . Work on the first of them was initiated by the chairman of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, E. P. Kushnaryov, and was carried out on the basis of the Research Laboratory of Socio-Economic Problems of the Society of Kh. S. Kuznets under his leadership. The strategy of socio-economic development of the Kharkiv region until 2010 was presented to the Kharkiv Regional Council and the scientific community of the city in 2003. In 2008, the Development Strategy of the Kharkiv Region until 2015 was developed (headed by A. P. Avakov ) [4] . In 2010, a joint team of representatives of city authorities, practitioners, scientists of KhNEU im. S. Kuznets and SIC IPR NASU (led by M. M. Dobkin ) prepared a scientific and practical report "Fundamentals of sustainable development of the Kharkov region until 2020" [5] . The report was the basis for the Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Kharkiv Region until 2020 [6] , December 23, 2010 adopted by the Regional Council.
Students
KhNEU named after S. Kuznets is the regional flagship and Ukrainian leader in student self-government. Since 2000, the university has actively supported student cultural and community initiatives. The University has a Youth Organization, a Youth Center, 30 amateur student groups. Traditional festivals, contests and tournaments are held: “Student Spring”, “Debut”, KVN, “Mr.” and “Miss KhNEU”, debate and oratory tournaments, “Golden Compass”, etc. The richness of cultural life and wide opportunities provided for students in this area are one of the features of KhNEU im. S. Kuznets among universities of Ukraine.
Youth Organization
The youth organization was established in 1999. Traditionally, it occupies a leading position in the city and strong in Ukraine. He is an active participant in regional and All-Ukrainian actions (All-Ukrainian School of Young Leaders, All-Ukrainian Festival "Student's Republic", student measures in Kharkov - nomination 2004, 2005). Co-founder of the Kharkov Union of Student Youth. Regional Coordinator of the All-Ukrainian Student Council in Kharkov; Heads of the HRV Secretariat - students of KhNEU named after S. Kuznets Vladimir Shemaev (2006-2007), Natalya Yakunina (2008-2010). Partner at the United Nations Population Fund.
Youth Center
Youth Center (Student Club) KhNEU im. S. Kuznets was founded in 2000. The youth center unites and assists the creative teams of students of KhNEU. In 2010, among them were 30 groups of different genres and directions, among them the folk group of the modern pop dance "Joy", the pop dance group "Emotion", the folk vocal and instrumental ensemble "Roksolana", the choir "Vernissage", the vocal ensemble "Opium" , vocal ensemble "Nathnennya", folk vocal group "New People", wind instrument orchestra, pop theater "Empire", etc.
Student Spring
Traditional, since the 1980s, is the annual University Spring Student Festival.
Debut
The annual debut festival-contest for freshmen is similar.
Inzhek Tourist Club
It was created in 2007 to organize leisure for students and staff.
Inzhek Metalist Fan Club
Inzhek-Metallist fan club began operations in February 2010 as a joint project “Towards Each Other” of KhNEU and Kharkiv Metallist Football Club. One of the goals of the initiative is to engage initiative students in Kharkiv shares of the Euro 2012 football championship.
The Golden Compass
The University is the venue for the International Student Competition of PR projects "Golden Compass", founded in 2007. The competition aims to stimulate the creative and practical initiatives of students studying in the following specialties: marketing, advertising, PR. The Golden Compass is a professional team competition. Since 2013, the competition of advertising projects has been held as part of the event, and from 2014 - Startup initiatives. All developments are united by one theme. Participants carry out projects for real, not virtual, companies. The jury consists of only business representatives. The competition is supported by international and national companies and professional associations of Ukraine - Ukrainian Association of Public Relations (UAPR), Ukrainian PR League.
Sport
Sports activities in KhNEU named after S. Kuznets are conducted in sections. In 2003, the sports system proposed by the university was approved by the Minister of Education and Science and recommended to all educational institutions in Ukraine.
Ежегодно проводится спартакиада по 10 видам спорта и соревнования по мини-футболу на Кубок ректора. Сборные команды ХНЭУ получили известность в регионе.

Атлетизм
Гиревой спорт, тяжёлая атлетика, пауэрлифтинг, атлетизм.
Basketball
Мужская и женская сборные университета по баскетболу.
Волейбол
Женская команда ХНЭУ им. С. Кузнеца по волейболу основана в 1999 году и с 2000 года является участником Высшей студенческой лиги Украины. Постоянный участник соревнований, проводимых Федерацией волейбола Харьковской области и Областного управления по физическому воспитанию и спорту.
Table Tennis
Учебно-тренировочные группы по настольному теннису как для студентов, так и для преподавателей и сотрудников ХНЭУ им. С. Кузнеца . Сборная команда университета принимает участие в товарищеских встречах со сборными командами вузов Харькова и в Спартакиаде вузов Харькова. Проводятся личный чемпионат среди иностранных студентов, личный чемпионат ХНЭУ им. С. Кузнеца памяти Л. С. Лученко, встречи сборных факультетов,
Самбо и Дзюдо
Действует сборная команда университета по самбо и дзюдо. Проводятся командные первенства среди факультетов, личные первенства, показательные выступления. Команда ХНЭУ им. С. Кузнеца — участник Международного турнира памяти Владимира Киселя (3-е место, 2012 г.).
Спортивный туризм
Секция спортивного туризма на кафедре физического воспитания и спорта ХНЭУ им. С. Кузнеца открылась в 2006 году. Занятия проводятся по технике пешеходного, горного, велосипедного и водного туризма. Сборные команды университета постоянно принимают участие в областных и межвузовских соревнованиях, где являются неоднократными победителями и призёрами этих соревнований. Лучшие воспитанники неоднократно защищали честь Харьковщины на Чемпионатах и Первенствах Украины в составе сборной команды Харьковской области.
Soccer
Мужская сборная команда университета. Проводится первенство общежитий по футболу, соревнования по футзалу среди факультетов. Команда ХНЭУ им. С. Кузнеца — победитель «Metalist Student League» в первой лиге 2013 года.
Шашки и Шахматы
Шашечно-шахматный клуб ХНЭУ им. С. Кузнеца открыт в 2011 году. Сборная команда университета — участник спартакиады по шашкам среди студентов вузов Харькова. Проводятся первенство университета по шашкам среди студентов, спартакиады по шашкам и по шахматам среди факультетов.
