Until 1941.
Before the start of the [1] World War II, the 250th heavy bomber regiment was based in the city of Chita . He was armed with TB-3 aircraft.
1941-1945
06/25/1941 the whole composition (48 or 49 aircraft), the regiment flew west and 07/09/1941 arrived in the region of Voroshilovgrad . It became part of the 50th long-range bomber air division . At the beginning of August 1941, it was involved in delivering goods to the surrounded troops of 6 and 12 armies. After that, one squadron began night bombing on the rear of the enemy, advancing towards Kiev . From that moment until the end of the war, the regiment’s sorties took place mainly at night.
In January 1942, it formed the basis of Major Polikarpov’s special-purpose air transport group , which until May 1942 made flights to supply the partisans of Crimea .
From March 6 to March 21, 1942, the regiment was part of the 22nd Aviation Division , on the basis of which on March 21, 1942 a new 62nd Long-Range Aviation Division was formed (later converted to the 9th Guards Long-Range Air Division, then to the 22nd guards bomber air division ). The regiment was in its composition until the end of the war.
In connection with the creation of Long-Range Aviation, the regiment became part of it and from 04.16.1942 it became known as the 250th Long-Range Aviation Regiment (250 ap DD) . However, there is evidence that the name " 250 ap DD " has been used before.
By order of the People's Commissar of Defense of the USSR No. 250 dated 08/18/1942, the regiment was awarded the guards rank and converted into the 4th Guards Long-Range Aviation Regiment (4 Guards Ap DD) .
In September 1942, obsolete heavy TB-3 bombers were replaced in the regiment by Li-2 aircraft, which were used as long-range night bombers.
In February 1943, for the distinction in the Battle of Stalingrad, the regiment was given the honorary name "Stalingrad."
In 1943, the regiment took part in the battles for the Donbass . For the contribution to the liberation of the Donbass division, of which it was a part ( 9 Guards ad DD ), the name Donbass was assigned.
In 1944, he flew to bombard targets in Estonia ( Narva ), Belarus , Ukraine ( Chop ), Slovakia ( Presov , Zvolen ), Romania ( Satu Mare ), etc.
In connection with the abolition of Long-Range Aviation as a structure of central subordination and the formation of the 18th Air Army on its basis, Directive No. Org / 10/315706 of 12/26/44, the regiment was renamed the 220th Guards Bomber Stalingrad Red Banner Aviation Regiment (220 Guards Bap).
The last sorties of the regiment in March - early May 1945 were flights to bombard the cities of Gdynia , Danzig , Pillau , Swineemunde , Koenigsberg and its environs, suburbs of Berlin .
After 1945
After the end of World War II until 04/04/1946, the regiment remained in the 22nd Guards. bad , then it was removed from its composition. From the bomber was converted into a transport, retaining the number ( 220 Guards. Trap ) and materiel ( Li-2 aircraft). In the second half of the 1940s - the first half of the 1950s. based in Vinnitsa .
