Best known as a reggae performer with a touch of rhythm and blues - a style known as “reggae fusion” . He became one of the first internationally known performers from regularly tried himself in this genre and is still one of the most successful reggae fusion performers of all time [1] .
According to the AllMusic music website, Maxi Priest “[at one time] was one of the most internationally popular reggae singers since Bob Marley . The admixtures of pop music and modern rhythm and blues in Priest’s music didn’t have reggae purists, but they gave it a strong crossover appeal among fans of other genres that paid off in the transatlantic chart topper “Close to You” ".
