Description

Small fluffy German wasps, body length from 6 to 10 mm (females 6-8 mm; males 7-10 mm). The first segment of the flagellum flagellum is 2 times longer than its maximum width, the head is monochromatic with a mesosome and abdomen. Propodeum covered with silver bristles. The mandibles are straight, the mesosome is longer than its width, a distinct scutellar scale, a pygidium with distinct grooves are developed. Complex hemispherical eyes. The abdomen is nodular with a petiol connecting it to the breast. Shins of middle pair of legs of males with two spurs. The pygidial field of females is well developed. Sexual dimorphism is characteristic : females are wingless, males are winged. Parasites in nests of stinging hymenopteran insects, where they lay their eggs in the larvae of the hosts of this nest. German larvae feed on host larvae and pupate there. Adults feed on nectar [1] [2] [3] .

The species was first described in 1928 by C. Mickel (CE) [4] . The species’s valid status was confirmed during a 2012 species group audit by American entomologists Kevin A. Williams and James P. Pitts , both of Utah State University , Logan, Utah, and their co-authors. The taxon is included in the species group Dasymutilla monticola species-group ( D. arenerronea , D. archboldi , D. birkmani , D. canella , D. eurynome , D. macilenta , D. monticola , D. radkei , D. saetigera , D. vesta ); close to the species Dasymutilla saetigera [1] .
