Bottle

A bottle , or butel (through Polish. Butelka from French bouteille , German. Buttel from cf. lat. Buticula , Butis - “barrel”) - a vessel in the form of a drop-shaped bottle with a narrow neck. It was originally made from dried plant fruits , as a result of which later a similar shape began to be repeated in the manufacture of similar containers from inorganic materials - ceramics , metal and glass [1] . In modern and new times, glass bottles of various volumes have been widely used in pharmacy as a special container for storing medicines [1] , as well as in chemistry as laboratory glassware .

In Culture

  • A bottle made of dried pumpkin is traditionally considered to be a talisman in Chinese folklore ; its image, as a result, began to symbolize longevity in China. In Taoism, a bottle of gourd symbolizes mystery and is an attribute of one of the eight Immortals , Li Teguay [1] .
  • In the visual arts of Asia Minor , the visual image of a bottle with smoke spirals emanating from it has a certain distribution, symbolizing the liberation of the spirit from the body [1] ; this image is closely connected with genie stories [2] and as such has firmly entered the modern mass culture .
  • In Christian art, a bottle is occasionally used as a symbol of salvation [1] .
  • In alchemical symbolism, the bottle appears as the main element of the symbol, called cucurbit , which designated mercury subjected to alchemical transformations [1] [3] .
  • In Europe, large bottles, in connection with the popularity of their pharmacological use and association with it, were used in the design of pharmacy signs [1] .
