History
The village of Mullet ( Κεφάλι ), also known as the Venetian settlement of Porto Leone, was abandoned by residents after the earthquake in the Ionian Sea in 1953 that destroyed the island’s water system. However, the church that survived after the disaster is still used by local residents.
In the early 90s, the island's water supply system was restored. In addition, all roads that previously did not have a hard surface were paved or paved with stone. Kalamos, once a remote island without electricity and a water system, now has all the modern amenities.
The nearest lyceum and gymnasium are located on the mainland, in Aetolia and Akarnania , but most of the students go to study in Nidrion on Lefkada.
