Nikolaos (Nikos) Ikonom ( Greek Νικόλαος "Νίκος" Οικονόμου ; born February 19, 1973 , Athens ) is a Greek professional basketball player ( heavy forward ) and basketball coach. Two - time champion and two-time winner of the Greek Cup , winner of the European League FIBA 1995/96 and winner of the Intercontinental Cup 1996 with the club " Panathinaikos ". For many years he played for the junior and national team of Greece , the European champion among juniors (under 16 years old) and the silver medalist of the European Championship among youths (under 22 years old) .

Sports career
Nikos Ikonom already showed great promise as a basketball player in his childhood, in 1989 becoming the champion of Europe under the age of 16 with the cadet team of Greece [1] . In this tournament, he scored an average of 25 points per game, becoming his top scorer [2] . Ikonomu began his professional basketball career in the 1990/91 season as part of the Ionikos club (Nikaia), and from next year he joined one of the strongest clubs in Greece - Panathinaikos [3] . In 1992, he won another European Championship medal, this time among young men under the age of 22 , and the next year appeared on the court and as part of the national team of Greece .
Ikonom played in Panathinaikos until 1999, twice in a row - in 1994 and 1995 - making his way with the club to the Final of the four European leagues of FIBA , and in the 1995/96 season for the first time in the history of Greek basketball, he won this main European club tournament [4] . Twice during this period, he also won the championship and the Greek Cup , and in the star season of 1995/96 he was recognized as the best player in the Greek League [3] . In the same years, he successfully played in the Greek national team, rising with her to fifth place at the Atlanta Olympics (where he became her top scorer [5] , as well as fourth place at the 1998 World Cup and three European Championships [1] Four years in a row - from 1996 to 1999 - Ikonom participated in FIBA Eurostar matches [6] , becoming the top scorer of the Oriental team in the first year [7] .
After parting with Panathinaikos, Ikonom played in a number of leading European clubs, including the Bologna Kinder (with which he reached the finals of the Saporta Cup 2000), Barcelona and the main rivals of his former team in the Greek championship - Olympiacos . He spent one season in Russia, where he played for the Moscow Dynamo [8] . Ikonomu completed his playing career after playing in the 2006/07 season at the Panellinios Club. In the 2008/9 season, he was appointed head coach of the Olympia club (Patras), but in December he resigned due to poor results [9] . In the 2013/14 season, he coached the Ikari club (Serron) [10] , and the next season he led the Livadia team [11] .
