Biography
Irina Borogan began her journalistic career in 1996 as a correspondent for the newspaper Today . In 1999, she covered the NATO operation in Yugoslavia , the earthquake in Taiwan, the situation in the camps of Chechen refugees in Ingushetia during the Second Chechen War . In May-November 2000 she was a special correspondent for the political department of the Izvestia newspaper. Conducted topics of crime and law enforcement. In 2002-2004 was a correspondent for the Versiya newspaper (a weekly newspaper). She wrote about the hostage-taking in the theater center on Dubrovka . In 2004, she joined the Moscow News weekly and wrote about hostage-taking at Beslan School No. 1 . From January 2006 to November 2008 she worked for Novaya Gazeta , writing, in particular, on the 2006 Lebanon War and on the situation on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip ( Palestine ). She also regularly commented on terrorism reports for the Moscow Times and since 2010 has been writing for Foreign Policy and Foreign Affairs. [2]
Together with Andrei Soldatov, she was a co-founder of the Agentura.Ru project. In collaboration with Soldatov, she published the book “The New Nobility. Essays on the history of the FSB ”(English edition 2010, Russian 2012), which is described by a number of reviewers as thorough and trustworthy [3] [4] . Later the book was also published in France , Estonia , Finland and China .
In September 2015, PublicAffairs (Perseus Group) published a book by Andrei Soldatov and Irina Borogan, The Red Web: The Struggle Between Russian Digital Dictators and the New Online Revolutionaries .
