Long came from an obscure and little-known family and probably owed his career to Tiberius , with whom he was in close friendship (as the historian Tacitus wrote, “an old companion of all his sorrows and joys” [1] ). Lucilius was the only senator who shared with Tiberius his voluntary exile on the island of Rhodes from 6 BC. e. 2 year n. e [1] . The only thing known about Long's career is that in 7 years he held the post of consul-suffice [2] .
In 23, Long passed away. Senators decided to arrange for him a censorship funeral at public expense and to establish his statue on the August forum [1] .
