Biography
Born July 10, 1950 in Kalamata.
In 1974, he was secretary of the interim president of the Hellenic Republic, Mikhail Stasinopoulos , with whom he collaborated when Stasinopoulos was under house arrest in the last period of the dictatorship of the “black colonels”.
By training a lawyer. He studied in Paris , at the Sorbonne , in 1977 received a doctorate in public law.
In 1978-1979 he served in the army. This was followed by several years of academic career. Pavlopoulos is the author of several books.
In 1996, he was elected to the Greek Parliament from the New Democracy party, then was re-elected in 2000, 2004, 2007, 2009 and 2012.
In 1989-1990 he was deputy minister under the chairman of the government and press secretary of the government, in 1990-1995 he headed the legal department in the administration of President Konstantin Karamanlis .
In 1995-1997 he was the official representative of the center-right party "New Democracy", in 2000-2004 he was the parliamentary representative of the party.
In 2004-2007 he was Minister of the Interior, State Administration and Decentralization, and in 2007-2009 he was Minister of the Interior .
On February 18, 2015, left-wing Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras proposed a politician from the center-right New Democracy Party Prokopis Pavlopoulos for the presidency of the country [1] . And on the same day, Prokopis Pavlopoulos was elected president of Greece [2] .
