Cleomed Crater ( lat. Cleomedes ) is a large ancient impact crater located on the northern coast of the Sea of Crises on the visible side of the Moon . The name is given in honor of the ancient Greek astronomer and philosopher Stoic Cleomed (I century AD); approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1935. The formation of the crater belongs to the nectar period [1] .

Crater Description
The nearest neighbors of the crater are the crater of Tralles , covering the north-western section of the cleomer's crater; Burckhardt crater in the north; Delmot crater in the east and Swift crater in the south-south-west. In the south of the crater Cleomed is the Sea of Crises [2] . The selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater are , diameter 130.8 km [3] , depth 3.86 km [4] .
The crater Cleomed has a polygonal shape and is significantly destroyed during its existence. The massive shaft of the crater is smoothed, especially heavily destroyed in the southern part, in the eastern part of the shaft there are noticeable reductions in the area. The height of the shaft above the bottom of the bowl reaches 2400 - 3000 m [5] , the volume of the crater is approximately 16 600 km 3 [1] . The bottom of the bowl is lined with basaltic lava , in the northeastern part of the bowl lies Cleomedes furrow , formed during the freezing of lava, and there are also small grooves in the southeastern part of the bowl. In the north-north-western part of the bowl at the foot of the inner slope there are two prominent satellite craters - Cleomed A and Cleomed E (see below). There is a central peak slightly displaced to the north from the center of the bowl and turning into a ridge extending to the north-northeast. The height of the central peak is about 1000 m [6] . In the eastern part of the bowl there are many small craters surrounded by a dark halo , which are probably volcanic craters surrounded by pyroclastic deposits [7] .
