Content
DescriptionWingspan - 34-49 mm. On the fore wings, the main background is brownish-gray with black transverse stripes; the rim is whitish-gray. The hind wings are reddish yellow or orange with a black inner medial stripe and an outer margin. Near the summit corner there is a small spot of yellow, the rim is yellow-white, the rest of the rims are gray.
RangeIt occurs in southern Europe , locally in Central Europe ( Carpathian mountains , Balkans), Asia Minor , on the southern coast of Crimea .
BiologyFor a year it develops in one generation. Winters at the egg stage. The caterpillar feeds on oak leaves (mainly young trees) from April to June. Flight time from June to early September.
SecurityThe species is listed in the Red Book of Ukraine as a rare species.
