Biography
Born in 1904 at the mouth of the Khara-Sibir River, in the Kunkur area, now the village of Tsagan-Ola, Mogoytuisky district, Aginsky Buryat district, Trans-Baikal Territory . Before the war, he worked as the foreman of the field crew on the farm to them. Stalin village Tsagan-Ola. He participated in the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy in Moscow in 1939.
Since July 1941, Togon Sanzhiev has been an infantryman of the 529th Infantry Regiment of the 163rd Infantry Division of the North-Western Front . In January 1942, in a battle near the village of Sukhaya Vetosh, he brought 15 wounded soldiers from the battlefield, for which he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner .
Subsequently, he was selected as a sniper. At the front I met with fellow countryman Semyon Nomokonov , with whom he was familiar before the war, who became the mentor of Sanzhiev. I went with Nomokonov in conjunction. The poet Mikhail Matusovsky in the poem "Friends", dedicated to fellow snipers, wrote " Tungus was cunning, careful, but he was drilled hot ." Within six months, Sanzhiev, as a sniper, destroyed 186 enemy soldiers and officers.
Togon Sanzhiev was killed in a duel of snipers near the city of Staraya Russa, Novgorod Region . A bullet through an optical sight hit Sanzhiev’s head and ricocheted into Nomokonov’s shoulder, which carried his partner from the battlefield. Later, as a result of a three-day ambush, Nomokonov avenged the death of a friend by tracking down a German sniper.
