De Gaetani, Jen

Jen (Janice) De Gaetani ( born Jan (Janice) DeGaetani ; July 10, 1933 , Massillon , Ohio - September 15, 1989 , Rochester , New York ) - American singer ( mezzo-soprano ), teacher.

Life and work

She graduated from the Juilliard School under the direction of Sergius Kagen . A brilliant performer of new and newest music from the songs of Schubert , Schumann , Mussorgsky , Mahler and Hugo Wolf to Schoenberg (“Moon Pierrot”), Hindemith , George Krum (“Longtime Children's Voices”), Aaron Copland (“12 Poems by Emily Dickinson ”), Charles Ives , Eliott Carter . She also performed medieval and renaissance music. She performed with the largest orchestras in the USA and Europe. She taught vocals, among her students - Dawn Upshaw , Rene Fleming and others. Died of leukemia .
