Arrested Development (group)

Arrested Development ( Arrested Development ) is an American alternative hip-hop group. It was founded in Atlanta in 1988 by rapper Speech and his best friend Headliner, who, inspired by the work of Public Enemy , wanted to create songs that looked at the world from a positive, afrocentric point of view ^[1] .

The AllMusic music website characterizes Arrested Development as “an afrocentric rap troupe that soared to fame in the early 1990s with [its] self-conscious part of the [black] community music and universal themes” ^[1] and as a “progressive rap collective fusing [in one piece of music] soul, blues, hip-hop and funk-inspired Sly & the Family Stone with political, socially conscious lyrics ” ^[1] .

The most successful album of the group is the first, 3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life Of ... (1992). In the United States, it was certified four times platinum for sales in more than 4 million copies (by February 1995) ^[2] .

Then in 1992 the group became one of the biggest successes of the year. Critics were delighted with her. For this year, the group was awarded two Grammy Awards - in the categories “Best Rap Album” and “ Best New Artist ”, and Rolling Stone magazine called it “Group of the Year” ^[1] .
