Biography
In 1928-1931 he studied at the Munich State Academy of Music in the class of conducting and composition. Apprentice of Sigmund von Hausegger and Walter Courvoisier .
Since 1930 he published several works in the field of musicology , in 1934 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the problems of musical form in the works of Richard Strauss .
In 1933-1934 he was an assistant to the chief conductor of the Bavarian State Opera Hans Knappersbush . In 1934-1944 he worked as an accompanist and conductor in the city theater of Augsburg .
Member of the Second World War. At the end of the war he was captured, from which he was released in 1946.
From 1948 to 1951 he was the music director of the Stralsund Theater, then until 1954 he was the chief music director of the Rostock People's Theater.
From 1954 until his death, he was the musical director of the State Theater in Dessau .
Laureate of the Handel Music Prize (1961) and the Dessau City Prize (1963).
