Metropolitan John Tsaftaridis ( Greek Μητροπολίτης Ιωάννης Τσαφταρίδης ; August 16, 1969 , Angerikos, Zakynthos Island , Greece ) - Bishop of the Orthodox Church of Alexandria , Metropolitan of Zambia and Malawi .
Bishop
Received primary education on the island of Zakynthos . Then he studied at the Theological Seminary of Athens, at the theological school of the University of Athens . He was accepted into the brotherhood of the Assumption Monastery Penteli [1] .
On November 21, 1993, in the monastery of Iperagafu, a courtyard of the Sinai Monastery, he was ordained deacon by Metropolitan Panteleimon of Zakynthos (Bezenitis) [2] .
On December 17 of the same year he was ordained to the presbyter by the Metropolitan Dodonsky Chrysostomos (Sinetos) in the Church of St. Irene in Aeolus, Athens [2] .
Since 1993, he served as a missionary in the clergy of the Alexandrian Orthodox Church, nourishing churches in Zimbabwe , Zambia , Egypt ( Cairo ) and South Africa [1] .
In 1998, in Zambia, he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite by the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria Peter VII [1] .
In 2001 he graduated from the theological faculty of Sofia University [1] .
He organized and took part in a number of conferences devoted to various social problems (drugs, AIDS, ecology, bioethics), wrote several works [1] . He wrote several books: Ο Άγιος της Συγνώμης (Zimbabwe, 1995), Επιστροφή (Zambia 1997), Seeking the Zero of Life (Johannesburg, 2003), and Freely give unto all (Johannesburg, 2009).
In 2010, he received a master's degree at the Department of Greek and Latin Languages at Johannesburg University, after which he prepared for doctoral studies at the same university [1] .
On October 7, 2010, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Alexandria Patriarchate, at the proposal of the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria Theodore II, he was elected bishop of Mozambique [3] .
On October 17 of the same year, in the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Sava the Sanctified in Alexandria, he was consecrated bishop of Mozambique. The consecration was performed by: Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Zakynthos (Sinetos) ( Hellas Orthodox Church ), Zambian Metropolitan Joachim (Kontovas) , Bishop of Mareotis Gabriel (Rautopoulos) and Bishop of Elisenos Dionysos of Fotosia ( Orthodox ) .
February 20, 2011 in the Archangel Cathedral in Maputo , the capital of Mozambique , his intronization took place [5] [6]
November 24, 2015 by the decision of the Holy Synod appointed Metropolitan of Zambia and Malawi [7] .
On February 7, 2016, in the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel the Archangels in Maputo, a farewell liturgy was held by Metropolitan John at his former pulpit [2] .
On February 21, 2016, in the church of St. Alexander in Lusaka, the metronization of Metropolitan John, led by Metropolitan Nairobsky Makarii (Tilliridis), took place [8] .
