The mayor of the city of the English city of High Wycombe is elected annually at the annual meeting of the Charter trustees, whose powers are limited to ceremonies and other functions, depending on local customs and laws. Also, on the basis of the Charter of Trustees, one of its members is nominated by colleagues to be the mayor of the city.
And the tradition of weighing it began in 1678 , when the city residents decided to end the mayors who stole money from the city treasury and literally got fat from a satisfying life. After a year of service, the mayor was weighed again, and the herald reported “Increased!” Or “Not increased!”. In the old days of the gaining weight, the city ruler could be booed and even thrown with rotten tomatoes and rotten fruits, at present this part of the tradition is absent. The ceremony was held in this order: the city bells rang, a folk procession to the city church moved under the beat of a drum, then the mayor’s weighing took place on White Hart Street Square.
Now, the weigh-in ceremony is sometimes televised, as it was in August 2007 , when it was featured on B-Road Britain on ITV1 .
