Geographical position

Shcherbatovka is located about 27 km southeast of the city center of Kasimov . The nearest settlements are the village of Moncevo to the north, the village of Naryshkino to the east and the village of Sosnovka to the west.

History

The village of Shcherbatovka was first mentioned at the beginning of the 19th century. From 1835 to 1856, the village was owned by Princess Shcherbatova, along with Princess Golitsyna [2] .

In the XIX century. the village was part of the Elatom district of the Tambov province . In 1862, the village had 30 yards with a population of 347 people [3] .

Near the village there were quarries in which the extraction of building materials was carried out in an open way. At the beginning of the 20th century, they mined up to 10 thousand tons of dolomite and 500 thousand tons of limestone per year. Stone mining continued until 1958 [2] .

In 1906, the wealthy peasant Kugushev built the Assumption Church in the village. In 1911, in addition to the Orthodox, there were Old Believers in the village — Filippovites and “Judaizing” sectarians [4] .

In 1961, near the village, the Yolochka camp site was opened.

The village has regular bus services to the district center.

In Shcherbatovka there is a rural post office of the same name (index 391347).

Near the village there is a natural monument "Shcherbatovsky limestones" [5] .
