Biography
Vinnie Magallaines was born on July 2, 1984 in Rio de Janeiro . As a child, he played football, beach volleyball, and at the age of fourteen he became interested in Brazilian jiu-jitsu , was trained under the guidance of coaches Vinicius Aieta and Royler Gracie . He successfully participated in regional and national road safety competitions: in 2005, after he brought two gold medals from the World Cup, he received a black belt.
Magalhines performed at the BDD at the highest level, so in 2007 he won a gold medal at the World Championships in Los Angeles (without gi) and a bronze medal at the World Championships in Long Beach (with gi) - in the heavy and heavy weight categories, respectively . Repeatedly participated in prestigious ADCC grappling tournaments: in 2009 he won two bronze awards at the Barcelona tournament in light and absolute categories, in 2011 he became the heavyweight champion at the tournament in Nottingham, defeating the famous wrestler Fabrice Werdum in the final.
At the same time as a wrestling career, starting in 2006, Magalhays regularly performed in professional fights according to mixed rules. In 2008, he joined the largest fighting organization Ultimate Fighting Championship , taking part in the reality show The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir , where he represented the Frank World team. As a result, he reached the final of this tournament, losing by technical knockout to Ryan Bader . Later in 2009, he had another fight at the UFC and was also defeated - by unanimous decision of the judges from Eliot Marshall . Due to two defeats in a row, the organization’s management did not renew the contract with him.
Fighting in several little-known promotions, in 2010, Vinnie Magallaines joined the large European organization M-1 Global - he defeated Alikhan Magomedov and Jake Doerr ahead of schedule, as a result of which he won the right to challenge the vacant light heavyweight champion title [1] . In April 2011, by suffocating reception, the gogoplat defeated the Russian Viktor Nemkov and thereby received the championship belt. In the same year he defended the title, by technical knockout he defeated another Russian Mikhail Zayts . Later, he had disagreements with the management of M-1 about the signed contract, as a result he left the organization, and put his champion belt up for sale on eBay for $ 90 thousand.
In 2012, Magalhines returned to the UFC and performed at three other tournaments of this organization. First, Ihor Pokrayac defeated the Croatian by the lever of his elbow, but then suffered two defeats in a row - by a unanimous decision from Phil Davis and a knockout from Anthony Perosh [2] [3] [4] . Failures forced him to again leave the organization and appear on the show of lesser-known promotions [5] [6] . So, in 2014, by strangling him from behind, he defeated Jorge Gonzalez at Xtreme Kombat 24 in Mexico, and then defeated Jason Brilz at the Titan Fighting Championships, as a result of which he became the champion of this organization in light heavyweight [7] .
Performing in mixed martial arts, Vinnie Magalhays continues to actively participate in amateur wrestling championships in Brazilian jujitsu and grappling. For example, in 2014, he fought twice at the Metamoris Championship, and in both cases the referees recorded a draw.
Married, has two children [8] [9] .
