Verlamion ( Verlamion - "settlement over the swamp ") - a Celtic settlement on the river , founded about 20 BC. e. Tuscovanus , king of the Catuvella tribe. Verlamion served as their capital, where a coin was also minted . During the Roman conquest in 43 AD e. Verlamion was renamed Verulamium (now St. Albans ).
