And the eighth son of the eighth son will come, and the Flat World will roll, and four riders will roll on the ground (alas, without horses, for some thief would lead them away) of Abokralipsis. And the last, as always, Rincewind, the most inept wizard on the Disk.
Story
In the Flat World, it is believed that when an eighth son is born to an eighth son, he will certainly become a wizard. Wizards are forbidden to marry without leaving magic. The wizards themselves explain this by saying that family life is not conducive to doing magic.
One day, one wizard, the eighth son of the eighth son, despised all prohibitions and, contrary to the magical Law and all reasonable arguments, "left the magic walls, fell in love and got married (and not necessarily in the above order)." He had seven sons, each of whom, by the laws of magic from the cradle, was at least as powerful as any other wizard in this world. And then he had the eighth son, Coyne. “The Wizard is in the square. Source of miracles. Wonderful.
The Wonder is the one who can form new spells from chaotic raw magic and create new spells. There were not so many such miracles in the history of the Disc, and it was their appearance that prevented the magical prohibition of wizards from continuing the race - they are too powerful for the full magic world.
Typically, the miraculous were little interested in worldly destinies, but Coyne's father prepared for him a different fate - he wanted his son to become the arkkantsler of the Invisible University and rule the fate of the world. But he did not take into account one thing, that the miraculous board would cause too much influx of magic into the world. The dictatorship of magic will unleash a terrible war that will destroy the whole world. In other words - the end of the world will come, or Abokralipsis.
Honorable mission to prevent the approaching end of the world falls Rinswind - the very magician who, according to the informed opinion of some of his mentors, was not able to reach even the zero level of mastery of magic inherent in normal people since birth. And a novice barbarian hero, a hairdresser, and Arkkantsler's Hat help her, who for two thousand years of intercourse with great wizards has found her own personality.
