History
Gornji Benesov - “The Pearl of Silesia” - was founded in 1253 on the site of the existing settlement of miners of rocks containing silver, gold, tin, zinc and iron. The local silver mines were the oldest in the Czech Republic. On the coat of arms and flag of the city now placed half of the Silesian eagle and two mining hoes.
In the past, the textile industry also developed rapidly here.
Until the end of World War II, the city was almost completely inhabited by Germans. So, in 1910, 99% of the inhabitants declared their German origin. In 1945, the German population of the city was evicted.
