Biography
Boris Samoilovich Borisov (current surname Gurovich) was born in 1872 in the city of Alexandrovsk, Ekaterinoslav province (now Zaporozhye ) [1] . From the age of 16 he worked in capitals and provinces, and by training a lawyer . However, he left his legal career and became an artist.
He began his stage career in the troupe of M. L. Kropyvnytsky (1895-1897). Then he played in the theaters of Kharkov (1897-1899) and Kiev (1899-1903). He was an actor in the Moscow Korsh Theater (1903-1913), the Free Theater (since 1913), then the Moscow Drama Theater.
Since 1908, he performed at the Bat Theater , where he was one of the most popular actors. In 1923-1924 he toured in New York , on his return he played in the Korsh Theater and performed on stage. In the theater he was mainly a comedian.
In addition to the theater, he was an outstanding pop actor and singer, performed Beranger songs, was a coupletist and storyteller, a reader ( Chekhov miniatures, fables by Demyan Bedny , poems by Joseph Utkin ), author and performer of romances, among which the most famous romance is “Stars in the Sky” (I dreamed a garden in a wedding dress to the verses of E. Diterichs), musical and vocal parodies, pop improvisations and impromptu. Boris Borisov’s romance “Why I Madly Love” was very popular in the performance of the operetta diva Raisa Raisova , and the record with this record withstood several runs in the early 1910s. [2]
Boris Gurovich died on November 11, 1939, was buried in the Novodevichy cemetery (2nd section) with his wife Maria Pavlovna Borisova-Smolenskaya (1877-1953).
