Coach Career
Montreal Canadiens
In 2000, after 13 defeats and only five victories, the Montreal Canadiens sacked head coach Alain Vigno and hired Michel Terrien. Statistics Canadiens after the arrival of Terrien improved, but they still did not get into the playoffs.
In his first full season as head coach, Canadiens Michel with Hubs won 36 games with 31 losses and scored 16 points more than last season. In the playoffs, the Canadiens Terriena won the Boston Bruins in six games in the first round, and then lost to Carolina Hurricanes in 6 games.
After a good start to the 2002/03 season , when they won 16 matches out of 34, the Hubs won just two matches from the next 12 games. This prompted general manager Andre Savard to fire Michel Terrien. Terrier in Montreal won 77 victories and suffered 114 defeats.
Pittsburgh Penguins
For two and a half seasons, Terrien was the head coach of the AHL Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins club, the Pittsburgh Penguins farm club. He led Wilkes-Barre to the Calder Cup in 2005.
In the 2007/08 season, Penguins led by Michel Terrien reached the Stanley Cup finals, where they lost to Detroit in six games.
July 18, 2008 Therrien signed a new contract with the penguins, calculated until the end of the 2010/11 season [5] .
The start of the next season was one of the best franchise stories, but it slowed significantly closer to December. On February 15, 2009, the day after a 6–2 defeat from the Toronto Maple Leafs , Terrien was relieved of his post as head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins. [6] Dan Balesma [7] took over as head coach and won the Stanley Cup, winning seven games over the Detroit Red Wings .
Return to Montreal
On June 5, 2012, the vice president and general manager of Montreal Canadiens, Marc Bergevin, announced the return of Michel Terrien [8] . The first season after returning was successful. The hubs won their Northeast Division but lost in the first round of the Stanley Ottawa Cup playoffs in five games. The following season, Montreal reached the finals of the Eastern Conference, where he lost to the New York Rangers in six matches. After the season ended, Canadiens General Manager Mark Bergevin and Michelle Terrien signed a new four-year contract.
