According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 1,919.192 km 2 , of which 1 908.832 km 2 are land and 12.173 km 2 or 0.600% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , 9,417 residents of the 3,995 households and 2,524 families live in the okrug. The population density is 5.00 people per km 2 . On the territory of the district there are 4,958 residential buildings, with a building density of about 3.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 95.87%, African - Americans - 0.17%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 1.77%, Asians - 0.36%, Hawaiians - 0.01%, representatives of other races - 0.18 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.64%. Hispanics made up 1.65% of the population, regardless of race .
As part of 25.80% of the total number of households , children under the age of 18 live, 50.00% of households are married couples living together, 9.40% of households are single women without a spouse, 36.80% of households households are not related to families , 33.40% of households consist of one person, 16.70% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone.
