Biography
He was born on June 22, 1981 in the Maharadze district of the Georgian SSR [1] in the family of engineer Andro Intskirveli and Leah Kutidze [2] .
On April 4, 1993, Archpriest Vasily Kikvadze baptized him in the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Shemokhmedi, Ozurgeti Municipality [2] . Archpriest Vasily (later Archimandrite John) became his first spiritual mentor [3] .
In 1996, with the blessing of Metropolitan Joseph of Shemokmedel, Kikvadze entered the Batumi Theological Seminary named after John the Theologian [4] . During his studies, he showed a penchant for monasticism and for some time lived as a novice in the Maher Monastery in Cyprus [1] .
In 2000, after graduating from the seminary, with the blessing of Catholicos-Patriarch Elijah II and Metropolitan Dimitri (Shiolashvili) of Batumi, he went on to continue his education in Serbia, where he studied at the Theological Faculty of the University of Belgrade from 2001 to 2007 [1] .
In 2008 he returned to Georgia. He accepted monasticism with the name of George from the Metropolitan of Batumi Dimitri (Shiolashvili) and was appointed secretary of the Batumi Diocese [1] .
On June 29, 2009, he became a monk with the name of Savva. On July 5 of the same year he was ordained hierodeacon [1] .
In October 2010, with the blessing of Catholicos-Patriarch Elijah II, he left to serve in the United States [2] .
On October 26, 2010, Metropolitan Dimitry of Batumi, manager of Georgian parishes in North America, was ordained a hieromonk , becoming the first clergyman of the Georgian Church ordained on the North American continent [1] . On the same day, he was appointed rector of St. David the Builderโs Monastery in Hanover, PA, and the Georgian Church of St. George in Philadelphia, PA [2] .
On May 22, 2011, Metropolitan Demetrius of Batumi was elevated to the rank of hegumen [1] .
February 9, 2013 was elevated to the rank of archimandrite [1] .
In March 2013, he was appointed rector of the Virgin Church of the Nativity in Brooklyn, New York [5] .
October 13, 2013 awarded the staff and mantle [1] .
On June 3, 2014, he was elected bishop of the newly established North American Diocese of the Georgian Patriarchate [6] .
On June 22 of that year, he was consecrated bishop of North America. The ordination in the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral was led by the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II , with the members of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church [7] [2] .
