Biography
Giovanni Tadolini was born in Bologna, privately studied vocals with Matteo Rubini and composition with Stanislao Mattei in the musical lyceum of his hometown. From 1811 to 1814 he was concert and choirmaster of the Italian Theater in Paris. After the occupation of the French capital by the Allied forces during the Napoleonic Wars, he returned to Italy, where for the next fifteen years he worked as a conductor and choirmaster in the Bologna Theater, as well as was engaged in composing, writing, in particular, a number of operas. In 1827, he married his former student and opera singer-soprano Eugenia . In 1829 he returned to France and again began to work in the Italian theater with his wife, being the director of operas with her participation. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1834. After that, Tadolini continued to work in the Italian Theater of Paris until 1839, then returned to Bologna and lived there until the end of his life, having founded a singing school in this city.
His operas La Fata Alcina, La Principessa di Navara, Il Credulo deluso; all in all, he wrote eight operas. In addition, he wrote cantatas, romances, a trio for winds, a symphony, works of chamber and sacred music.
