Biography
Born in late 1662 or early 1663 in Podolia, belonged to the noble family of Sternberg [1] . There is little information about his place of birth, childhood and education, but it is believed that he received a diverse education - he studied philosophy, theology, mathematics [2] . From 1686 to July 1702 he was a professor of humanities in succession in Kalisz , Lublin , Sandomin and Lviv (at the same time from 1697 to 1700 he was called a professor of rhetoric and poetics). At the same time in 1701-1702 and 1710 he was the prefect of schools [3] . From 1702 to 1709, with the rank of professor, he taught rhetoric at a theological seminary in Yaroslav. From 1714 to 1724 he was the rector of the seminaries in Torun and Yaroslav. Distinguished by independent judgments, came into conflict with the authorities.
He taught the spiritual eloquence of numerous students who later were teachers of oratory throughout Poland. He wrote a total of more than thirty works, the most famous of which are Via appia ad eloquentiae lauream per pueritiam, adolescentiam virilem aetatem aperta ( Poznan , 1711) and Orator sacro virilis (ibid., 1715).
