Liv Johanna Ullmann [5] [6] ( Norwegian Liv Johanne Ullmann ; born December 16, 1938 , Tokyo , Japan ) is a Norwegian actress. There is also a variant of Ullmann [7] . Liv Ullman gained worldwide fame for his roles played in films by Ingmar Bergman and Jan Truel .

Biography

Liv Ullman was born in Tokyo , grew up in Canada , studied acting in London , worked at the Stavanger Theater, and later played at the National Theater in Oslo . Her star rose in 1966 when she starred (along with Bibi Anderson ) in one of Ingmar Bergman’s greatest films, Persona , in the role of Elizabeth Vogeler, an actress who once stopped talking during the play and refused to speak at all.

Prior to this film, Liv Ullman starred in five minor Norwegian and one Swedish films. Thanks to Persona, Ullman got roles from American directors. Subsequently, she starred in many films directed by Ingmar Bergman, from whom she gave birth to a daughter, who became a well-known journalist in Norway. Repeatedly nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.

In addition to working with Bergman, Liv Ullman shone on Broadway and in Hollywood , playing a huge number of roles in the plays of Henryk Ibsen . In 1977, her autobiography , Changes, was released.

In the 1980s, Liv Ullman took up directing, her films won many awards. In 1995, she managed to film an epic novel by the Norwegian writer-Nobel laureate Sigrid Unset "Christine, daughter of Lawrence."

In June 2008, Liv Ullman led the jury of the main competition of the XXX Moscow International Film Festival [5] .

Family

Her only child is daughter Lynn (born August 9, 1966 ) from Ingmar Bergman, although she was never married to her, as she wrote in Changing's autobiography, published in 1977. Lynn is a well-known writer and journalist. She gave birth to two children in two marriages - a boy and a girl. In 2010, her book Blessed Child: A Novel was published in Russian.

The relationship between Ullman and Bergman is dedicated to the documentary Liv and Ingmar (2012).
