Derbyanka spiky

Diberianka spiky [1] [2] ( Latin Bléchnum spícant ) is a species of fern plants of the genus Derbyanka ( Blechnum ) of the family Derbyanka ( Blechnaceae ). First described by the Swedish systematist Karl Linnaeus under the name Osmunda spicant L. basionym [3] [4] .

Distribution and habitat

The species range includes [5] :

  • Europe : Austria , Belgium , United Kingdom ( England ), France (including Corsica ), Greece (including Crete ), Denmark (including the Faroe Islands ), Finland , Germany , Ireland , Switzerland , the Netherlands , Spain , Hungary , Italy (including Sardinia and Sicily ), Iceland , Portugal , Malta , Norway , Poland , Romania , Sweden , Turkey , Latvia , Russia (north of the European part, the Caucasus ), Ukraine , the countries of the former Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia
  • Pasta : Azores , Madeira , Canary Islands
  • Asia : countries of Transcaucasia , Turkey , Lebanon , Iran , Japan
  • Africa : Tunisia , Algeria , Morocco
  • North America : USA , Canada

The only known species of Derbyanki in Russia (not counting the Japanese derbyanka growing in the South Kuriles ) [2] .

It prefers shady forests with acidic , poor, moist humus soils [2] , in meadows, up to the mountain belt [6] .

Botanical description

Hemicryptophyte [2] .

Herbaceous evergreen plant 20–75 cm tall with a thick rhizome [2] .

Fronds : leathery, barren, trophyophylies , recumbent, form a rosette ; brown sporophylls linearly oblong, erect. Wintering trofophylls, no sporophylls [2] .

Spores ripen in linear sorus from July to September. Brides long, narrow [2] .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 68 [7] .

Value

Ornamental plant grown in gardens [8] . In culture, it does not withstand temperatures below −25 ° C [2] .

Root and stems can be eaten during the famine. Young, soft stems can be chewed to reduce the feeling of thirst [9] .

Various parts of the fern are used in medicine: the leaves are used in the treatment of cancer, lung diseases and stomach problems, the branches are used to treat skin ulcers, and the decoction of the root is used in the treatment of diarrhea [9] .

The leaves are used in spleen tumors and as wound healing [6] .

Environmental situation

It is listed in the Red Books of Eastern Fennoscandia, Latvia, Estonia, the Krasnodar Territory of Russia, Lviv and Chernihiv Regions of Ukraine [1] .
