Biography

The owner of a pharmacy in Monasterac ( Reggio Calabria , Calabria ), in 2006 became the mayor of this city and established herself as an uncompromising fighter with ndrangheta . She resigned in July 2013 after her pharmacy was burned and the car riddled with a shotgun. However, she explained her decision not by fear, but by disappointment in politics, "because it makes you think about strategy, not about people's problems." Having become a follower of the famous politician of the Democratic Party, Pippo Civati , she was invited to the Renzi government and took the minister’s chair without a portfolio of regional and autonomous affairs [1] .

On January 26, 2015, she resigned from her ministerial post, accepting the offer of the Governor of Calabria to work in the regional government (the decree of the President of the Republic on the resignation was signed on January 30, 2015 [2] ). However, she also finally refused the position of assessor in the regional government, as the list of new assessors included a certain Nino De Gaetano, who had been investigated in the past by the ROS Organized Crime Unit of the Carabinieri Corps on suspicion of “selling votes” , and returned to work at her pharmacy in Monasterac [3] [4] .

Critics recall that in her political biography, Lancetta received voter support only in the small town of Monasterace with a population of less than 5,000. Moreover, in 2006, 62% of citizens voted for her, and in 2011 she was trusted only by 35% of compatriots, and she outstripped her closest rival by only 51 votes. The residents of Monasterace have accumulated complaints about Lancet as mayor, but after shelling her car on the night of March 28 to 29, 2012, she was provided with security, and national politicians such as Pierre Luigi Bersani , Rosie Bindi , Elsa Fornero and Suzanne Camusso showed her personal support [5] .

Family

Married to Giovanni Scarfò, engineer, electronics specialist, teacher, director of the Cinemateca Calabria. Has two children [1] .
