John Kantli ( Eng. John Cantlie ) - British journalist who was abducted by militants from the Islamic State terrorist organization (IG) in November 2012, along with James Foley . Since that time, it has been held by terrorists in the Syrian city of Racca , which is controlled by the Islamists. Previously, he was abducted in Syria in July 2012, but then was released.

Militants have repeatedly posted Cantley's video messages, in one of which he called the American assistance to the Syrian opposition useless. Earlier, a video appeared on the Internet in which the abducted journalist called on the United States to abandon the military operation against the IS. Nevertheless, in September, the international coalition launched air strikes against Islamist positions in Syria and Iraq, and also decided to support the moderate Syrian opposition and the Iraqi security forces [1] .
Family
In October 2014, at the age of 80, John Cantley's father Paul died of complications from pneumonia. Two weeks before his death, he recorded a video message from the hospital ward asking for the release of his son [2] .
