Head quinoa , or Babington quinoa , or Quinoa almost naked [3] , or smooth quinoa [4] ( lat. Atriplex glabriuscula ) - a species of dicotyledonous plants of the genus Quinoa ( Atriplex ) of the Amaranthaceae family. First described by the botanist Thomas Edmondston in 1845 [5] [6] .

Content
Distribution and habitat
It is found in North America and Europe [7] . In Europe it is known from coastal areas in the north and west of this part of the world [8] .
It grows on sandy and gravel shores at or slightly above sea level [8] .
Botanical Description
An annual herbaceous plant 20–60 cm in size with a creeping stalk, turning reddish in color by autumn [4] .
The leaves are simple [3] , triangular or lanceolate, dentate or smooth at the edges [4] .
Inflorescence is a glomerulus [3] . Female flowers without perianth [4] .
It blooms in July and August [4] , the seeds ripen from August to September [8] .
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18 [9] .
Outwardly, it is very similar to Atriplex prostrata and Atriplex calotheca [4] .
Value
Young leaves can be eaten. Seeds are used as a thickener for baking or mixed with flour during the preparation of bread [8] .
Environmental Situation
It is listed in the Red Books of Latvia [4] and the Murmansk Region of Russia [3] .
