Creating a shelf

The 4th reserve fighter aviation regiment was formed from July 3 to July 8, 1941 in the Oryol Military District in Kursk on the basis of the 161st reserve aviation regiment consisting of 5 training squadrons.

The main purpose of the regiment

The 4th reserve fighter aviation regiment trained marching regiments and individual crews on the MiG-3 , LaGG-3 , La-5 and Yak planes . In the initial period of the war he specialized in the formation and retraining of units armed with MiG-3 fighters. But these planes themselves on July 07, 1941 there were only three. Besides them, the regiment had 3 training Yak-7UTI , as well as fighters I-16 . In early September 1941, the regiment's aircraft fleet was replenished with up to 7 units of Yak-7 aircraft and 16 MiG-3 aircraft. The main replenishment was due to the repair of faulty aircraft, departing to the rear for the reformation and retraining of aviation regiments.

Pilot Training

The process of retraining flight crews was typical: a regiment was withdrawn from the front that lost a large number of flight crews, it was replenished to full-time standards, pilots were retrained for a new material part. The regiment received new aircraft and again went to the front. Thus, the reserve regiment distributed aircraft coming from factories and repair bases.

In order to gain combat experience, the command and instructors of the reserve aviation regiments were sent to the aviation regiments of the army.
