Port Mathuren is located in the only bay on the island of Rodriguez, suitable for calling large vessels. It was founded in the 18th century by French colonists from the island of Mauritius. Got its name from the name of one of the first settlers of Maturin Bregni.
Since 2001, Port Maturin hosts the Regional Assembly of Rodriguez Island.
The main sectors of the economy are fishing, trade, sea transport services and tourists. Port Mathuren has a seaport.
