History
The first mention of Lyon as a ducal residence dates back to 936, when Norman Duke William I stayed here. In 1135, in the village, then called Saint-Denis-en-Lyon, the English king Henry I died. In 1193, King of France Philip II Augustus occupied Lyon, but the very next year, Richard I the Lionheart returned him to England. Until 1198, he was here several times, and after his death in 1202, Philip II Augustus still took possession of Lyon, and many French kings later came here for hunting in local forests.
Currently, Lyon la Foret is of interest due to the significant number of surviving buildings of the XVII century, as well as picturesque nature.
