Siege of Baghdad by the Mongols

- January - Hulagu army approaches Baghdad . The Caliph army was defeated and the city was besieged ( Battle of Baghdad (1258) . On February 10, the Mongols break into Baghdad. Robbery and massacre last five days; Jews and Christians are spared. February 20 - Caliph Al-Mustasim and all the men of the Abbasid clan were executed. Then Vasit was taken by the Mongols, Basra surrendered voluntarily. The death of the Abbasid caliphate . [1]
