The Iliopolitan Metropolitanate ( Greek Ιερά Μητρόπολη Ηλιουπόλεως ) is the diocese of the Orthodox Church of Alexandria .
History
The Orthodox Chair in Heliopolis (Iliopolis) appeared no later than the middle of the fifth century [1] .
The department was revived in the XX century as a titular bishopric. Since March 14, 2003 - titular metropolis .
On November 23, 2013, by the decision of the Holy Synod, the Alexandrian Orthodox Church was transferred to the category of acting metropolises [2] .
