Tronshen, Theodore (theologian)

Theodore Tronchen (April 17, 1582, Geneva - November 19, 1657, ibid. [2] ) - Swiss Protestant (Calvinist) theologian and spiritual writer, polemicist and Hebraist, supporter of "primordial" Calvinism.

Biography

Theodor Tronchen studied theology in Geneva, Basel, Heidelberg, Franeker and Leiden. In 1606 he became a professor of oriental languages ​​at the Geneva Academy, from 1608 he was a preacher at the academy, and in 1618 he also became a professor of theology in this educational institution [3] . From 1610 to 1615 he was the rector of the Academy [4] . In 1618, together with Giovanni Diodati, he represented Geneva at the Dort Synod . In 1632 he was chaplain under the army of Henri de Rogan during the campaign in Valtellin. In 1634 he advocated the Geneva Protestant translation of the Bible against the attacks of the Jesuit Pierre Coton. In 1655, on behalf of Geneva, he participated in negotiations with J. Durey on the unification of the Lutheran and Calvinist churches.
