The Middle English Dictionary is a Middle English dictionary published by the University of Michigan . “Its 15,000 pages provide a detailed analysis of vocabulary and its usage from 1100 to 1500 based on an analysis of more than three million citations, the largest collection available to date of this kind.” [1]
The project was opened in the 1920s. The first issue, Plan and Bibliography, containing a list of Middle English texts that were used to create the Middle English Dictionary , was published by Hans Kurat and Sherman Kuhn in 1954. The remaining issues (in alphabetical order) were published in the form of many volumes throughout the next few decades. Work on the dictionary was completed in 2001.
In 2007, the dictionary was made available free of charge to Internet users. Dictionary homepage is here .
