- Jean Alesi during Friday practice injured his leg and did not participate in the race - his starting position was left empty.
- at the start, Prost (who started 2nd) calmly took the lead, but in the 1st turn Ayrton went for a ram, and intentionally. Before the start, he hinted about it, and after a while he admitted publicly. The race, in the absence of leaders, was won by veteran Nelson Piquet. Subsequently, the FIA ββdid not punish the Brazilian for a deliberate clash.
